Focus Group on Finished Music Video

Focus Group on Finished Music Video

1st Promotional Poster Ideas

1st Magazine Advert Ideas

Instead of finding a completely different location to take the pictures for both digipak and magazine album advert, I decided to use the same location in which I had used to shoot the ending of my music video. This way not only will I be able to sho9w consistency with all three medias, by the audience will also be able to relate one another. I also noticed from previous artist who have had magazine adverts for there album, the background is somewhat significant towards the genre of the songs.

When it comes to the camera angles, I hope to take medium close ups. I’ve noticed that this is a reoccurring convention which magazine adverts use. In order to emphasise and sell the artist to the intended audiences, they need to be able to fully recognise the artist’s face. In order to catch my audience’s attention I’ll be trying to make her make appear bolder. Sticking close to the make-up that was originally used for the music video, I could include a nude lip colour as well, this way I think the audience will be attracted to the make-up style along with the current tre3nd of nude lipstick.

However in order to challenge the theory of Laura Mulvey, the male gaze, I will make my artist pose in a more ‘tomb boy’ position. This way the female side of my target audience will feel more attracted to this style, a powerful, strong female role model. As well as the male side of my target audience also seeing the feminine side of my artist with make-up and hair done.

Draft Music Video 1

Draft Music Video 1

After finished my music video I had uploaded the video to YouTube and then used Whatsapp to send the link to some people who I would consider as part of my target market and had asked them to send a voice note of what they thought of my finished media products.

Focus Group on Music Video Progress

Focus Group Music Video Progress

In order to constantly gain feedback as I edited my music video, I decided to show a group of people how far my editing had come and allowed them to write down their opinions. This way I can see where I may have used a certain clip for too long or even where my target audience may have thought that I may have used scenes that aren’t need or even the lip singing not being in sync.

Focus Group for Digipak & Promotional Poster

Focus Group Digipak and Magazine Advert

In or to gain some qualitative answers as to what exactly my target audience find attractive on digipaks and magazine adverts, I had put together some questions focused on both magazines advert and digipaks along with their conventions. This way I can find out which conventions and aspects or digipaks and magazine adverts that are most necessary, as well as trying to identify any theories that may also be indirectly mentioned. For example someone may say that they like seeing the female artist showing skin, or wearing revealing clothing that you may not see on a day-to-day basis. This will give me an indirect answer that Laura Mulveys theory is an aspect of digipaks that my target audience may take into consideration.

Reshooting Lighting Mistakes

Reshooting Lighting Mistakes

Whilst putting all of my wanted clips together for my music video, I had noticed that there are some clips with lighting differences. However I was able to change the lighting myself using the by reducing the white balance along with matching certain clips with the colour from others. But towards the ending of my music video, there were some huge lighting differences and so I couldn't correctly match the lighting without the artist’s face appearing too dark or her background having a yellow appearance. So I decided to schedule my artist to reshoot these clips, which were Verse 2 and Outro.
