Model's Make-up
Model’s Make-up
In order to
gain some ideas for my artist’s make-up look I printed of some picture of
female rapper who’s make-up I wanted to take some ideas from. I then showed
this paper to a group of people who are interested in make-up as well as listen
to R7B/Hip Hop songs, then wrote down their ideas and opinions. This way I can
see what needs to be emphasised more on as well as stand out more to attract
more of my potential audience’s attention.
The reason
why I had decided to choose this model as the artist for my music video is
mainly because of her appearance. I wanted my artist to seem more ‘tomb-boyish’, but at the same time
having that girl attitude. I had studies the appearance of a range of female
artists in the music industry and saw some common patterns when it came to
their make-up, clotting and attitude in music videos. Realising that in today’s most essential part of make-up for a girl,
would have to be her eyebrows. Being an artist they are supposed the latest
everything including the trends and styles of make-up appearances. To help make
my reasons more clear as well as my approach to creating my models own unique
make-up, I decided to record the process. This way you can see first-hand how I
designed my own R&B/Hip Hop make-up look.
Idea Diary
An easier way coming up with my
music videos idea, I kept a small book in which I was able to write down some
ideas. On top of annotated the lyrics for the song I’ll be shooting with.
1. On the 5th of September
·
I had written that I should try to keep it a bit simple- those
typical music videos
·
Inspirational music videos
·
Tory Lanez
·
Chris Brown
·
Rihanna
·
Beyoncé
·
Drake
2. On the 8th of September
·
In the beginning- showing her getting ready; typical day some
performance- SLOW MOTION parts
·
Middle- getting text from friends; meet up all go out shopping/
meal
·
End- park scenes; SPARKLES
·
Listening to music with more people arriving; recording mainly
people dancing
3. On the 9th September
·
Thinking of ending- lighting will be a bit difficult to manage
·
Could also be SIMPLE
·
SPARKLERS won’t work
·
Friends could just walk off in slo-mo
·
Or just record their feet from behind
4. On the 12th of September
·
The middle scenes shouldn’t be too hard to film; friends laughing
towards end
·
Sitting on stairs of plat/house
·
SUN should be bright
·
People in background shouldn’t look too flashy and bright
·
Needs to seem like a group of girls who are in types of rough/
minority are
· Able to still smile
5. On the 14th of September
·
The beginning scenes; model getting ready getting text message
from friends
·
Lighting very important; needs to have light shining directly in
front not too bright
·
Camera may not focus
·
Keep up with her walking around room as well as hand movements

Ideas for Music Video
Mind map on Music
Video Ideas
Apart from
doing the questionnaire and focus group that I have planned, I wanted some people
to write down some ideas that they might have after listening to the song I had
chosen. Therefore leaving me with more ideas and opinions of how and where to
film my music video. Although some of the writing is clear and readable i typed
up the opinions that were written down of the sheets by some people.
- Would be a nice video with performance scenes
- Typical American music video of her in the car riding around at night and partying
- Narrative of her going out and getting ready for her boyfriend
- Someone who can dance would be good
- The music video could be like a tour of her daily life getting ready, going to work in like a corner shop, and at the end going to a family BBQ
- The model would be having a bad day being fried from work and walking around at night as she has no home to go to but still smiling
- The lighting should be bright
- Try choosing a day to shoot when it’s sunny and bright
- Places to shoot o her Abbeywood, Woolwich and Erith
- Try sticking to the typical American music video appearance
- Minority area, since rappers and R&B singers usually come from rough backgrounds
- The background of the model shouldn’t be too fancy
- Try to keep the background and portfolio of the music video simple
- Music videos of artists around their neighbourhood where they used to live
- Everything in the background should look normal and the artist should stand out, like her makeup and clothing
- Trying to be herself could be shown trough her all dressed up in a simple area
- Make up should be on point eyebrows and eyeliner definitely
Audience Questionnnaire
Audience
Questionnaire
Although I
will be carrying out a focus group to get a more detailed answer from those who
are interested in the genre I chose, I decided to firstly create a quick
questionnaire and then from there choose those who are interested sand do
listen to R&B/Hip Hop to be in the focus group. In order to make my
questionnaire easy and accessible for those answering I decided to use an
online website called Survey Monkey. This website allows you to create a
questionnaire online with variable types of questions both multi-chose and
opinion based. This way at the end I can get a quantitative set of results
based on these answer and then move onto the focus group, where from here I can
act on these results and get some qualitative results.Create your own user feedback survey

Timeline/Diary
Timeline Diary
I decided to
create a timeline/diary of the progress I'll be, a type of checklist. This way I
will be able to see areas and task I have covered which I think are relevant to
my music videos production. I will be continuously uploading images of tasks
which I have completed as well as those which I think should be added on. This
way I have my own checklist which I can refer to.
Those who listen to R&B/Hip Hop
Those who listen to R&B/Hip
Hop
In order to gain a
better understanding of those who listen to R&B/Hip Hop, and why they enjoy
it. I decided to ask some people in my contact list on a social networking app
called ‘Whatsapp’.
Using 'Whatsapp' as
part one of my research, allowed me to easily manipulate who answers by
choosing who to ask out of my audience. The majority of the audience I asked
are female but I was also able to include some male preferences as well.
From some of the feedback I was able
to obtain from my contacts, I was also able to get some of their opinions on
why they do listen to R&B/Hip Hop. Most of the responses consist of them
being able to enjoy how most of the
times the genre is able to matched every mood they may be in, as well as ‘being
able to connect to my heart and culture’. The R&B/Hip Hop songs that have
been published usually have lyrics which are based on real life people struggling
and how they overcame them through love and family. This is what I think also helps
proves the point of Dyer’s Utopian Theory, allowing the audience to listen to
the music and make that song their reality.
